Some "Energy Efficiency" Definitions:

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio)— a measure of equipment the total cooling of a central air conditioner or heat pump (in Btu) during the normal cooling season as compared to the total electric energy input (in watt-hours) consumed during the season. A system with a higher SEER is more efficient.
EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio)— a measure of how efficiently a cooling system will operate when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level (95°F). The higher the EER, the more efficient the system.
HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor)— the total heating output of a heat pump (including supplementary electric heat) during the normal heating season (in Btu) as compared to the total electricity consumed (in watt-hours) during the same period. Systems with a higher HSPF are more efficient.
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency)— a seasonal rating that shows how efficiently a gas furnace converted fuel to space heat (through combustion) in comparison to the amount of fuel the furnace used. It is expressed as a percentage. Annual Fuel Utilitzation Efficiency does not refer to electrical usage (blower, fan or any electrical parts) in a furnace.

It is important to note that all ratings are determined in controled, laboratory settings. The "real-life" efficiency ratings may not reach those achieved under such "ideal" conditions unless related issues such as home insulation, ductwork design, floor plan, etc. are addressed. Puron^™ Refrigerant is Carrier^® environmentally sound refrigerant for home cooling systems. Puron^™ is:

Classified as an "R410a" type of refrigerant.
Chlorine-free and does not contribute to ozone depletion in the atmosphere.
A safe reliable alternative to the R22 refrigerant commonly called "Freon" and has been in use in residential systems for over 10 years.
A more efficient medium for heat exchange than traditional R22 refrigerant and is used to increase the SEER of Carrier^® Infinity Series^™ heat pumps and air conditioners—resulting in lower operating costs for homeowners.

Both the Infinity^™ and Performance^™ Series offer ComfortHeat^™ Technology and the Infinity^™ Electronic Control.

Carrier^®'s ComfortHeat^™ Technology helps eliminate "swings" in indoor air temperature by using:

A two-stage gas valve to provide two heating capacities,
A multispeed blower motor to ensure consistent airflow and temperature maintenance,
And two heat exchangers to ensure efficient, reliable performance.

Carrier^®'s Infinity Control^™—More than just another programmable thermostat.

Carrier^® systems with the Infinity Control^™ are the only systems in the industry that control temperature, humidity, air quality, fan speed and ventilation.

The result is more consistent temperature, greater air circulation and improved air quality. In the heating mode, this system can deliver warmer air by up to 20 degrees. In the cooling mode, it maintains longer cooling cycles for better humidity control and greater energy savings.
